Ontario | What Comes Into Season for July?

Even though I have no idea how we’re already in July, this month means a ton of fruit is officially in season here in Ontario, and that’s definitely something to smile about!

I did a post exactly like this last month for June, which you can read here. As mentioned in that post, I’ve been using the Foodland Ontario Availability Guide for years as a reference, and I thought it might be helpful to share here what fruits and vegetables come into season for each specific month!

Here’s everything that comes into season in Ontario starting in July:

Fruits

  • Apricots
  • Blueberries
  • Cherries
  • Currants
  • Gooseberries
  • Peaches
  • Plums
  • Raspberries
  • Watermelon

Vegetables

  • Beets
  • Celery
  • Corn
  • Garlic
  • Peppers (field)
  • Rapini
  • Tomatoes (field)
  • Zucchini

I am very much looking forward to eating my weight in watermelon and yellow plums over the next few months, and I’m also looking forward to enjoying the first corn of the season this weekend over a campfire.

You can check out the complete list of everything currently in season in Ontario here. There you can also see which fruits and vegetables are heading out of season, which for July, is garlic scapes and haskap berries. I still very much want to try the latter, but unfortunately I have not been able to find any where I am.

There’s no better time than summertime to eat both locally and colourfully, so definitely take advantage of this time of year to nourish your body with locally-grown food, support your local farmers and reduce your pre-packaged waste. So, see you at the farmer’s market?
