Since trying to be more intentional with the things I buy, I have found a lot of joy in thrifting again over the last couple of years, so I thought it would be fun to share what’s on my thrift list for 2025.
Really asking myself if I need certain things new or if I need them right now, brings more satisfaction to when I do purchase something. And when it comes to clothing, I feel like I’ve really started to curate my closet in regard to staple pieces and seeking out better materials, which has been such a rewarding feeling. Here’s what I’m on the hunt for this year to find secondhand:
Chunky Knit Cardigan
The only chunky knit cardigan I have is a patterned one I thrifted probably close to 15 years ago, and I’ve been wanting another one (preferably in grey) to have for work when it’s cold in the office.
Wide-Leg Jeans
My favourite pair of wide-leg jeans (that I thrifted over 10 years ago) are starting to see better days, so I’m on the hunt for one or two pairs this year. I’m also open to any wide-leg style, as long as they fit and feel great on.
Black Midi Skirt
This is such a great, staple piece that has been on my list for a while. I don’t own any midi skirts, and I know this is something that I would get a ton of wear out of as I can easily dress it up or down. I’m hoping I can find this piece by the spring, so I can live in this for the summer and fall months!
Plaid Skirt
As someone who rarely wears skirts, I’m a little surprised I have two on my thrift list for this year. I’ve hemmed and hawed over a plaid skirt for a couple years now, but it’s something I still find myself always keeping an eye out for, so I would love to finally find one this year. My only non-negotiable is that it has to be high-waisted, but I’m not really set on a certain cut or colour.
Leather Boots
For longevity reasons, I prefer real leather over faux leather, but morally I personally feel better buying secondhand leather versus new leather. Something I’ve never bought secondhand for myself is shoes, but as I stare at my old, black ankle boots that I currently use a black sharpie on to hide the scuffs on the patent toe, I’m realizing a new pair of good quality boots would be nice to have.
And then a couple non-clothing pieces on my list include…
Jewelry Box
I have all my jewelry in a dish, but I’ve wanted an actual jewelry box to better store and protect them for years. I’d love to find something unique that’s not too big, but big enough to still hold everything, and a wood exterior would be ideal.
Glass Diffuser Bottle
Having made homemade candles for the first time a couple months ago, something I’ve also wanted to try making myself is my own reed diffuser. I was surprised to find I don’t have a spare glass jar on hand to use for this, and as easy as it would be to just order some off of Amazon, the thrift store shelves are always full of jars like this.
Just like shopping for new pieces, one thing I always have to remind myself when thrifting is to not be impulsive, as it more often than not just leads to disappointment and money wasted. Instead, I just focus on the joy of perusing a thrift store and if I find that perfect piece I’ve been on the hunt for then even better!
Want to see my favourite clothing pieces I thrifted in 2024? It’s actually everything in the photo of this post, which you can also watch in my Instagram reel here.
