Happy Earth Day, and welcome to Greener Days Prevail!
This little space on the Internet is dedicated to my journey to living more sustainably and hoping to inspire positive change in others along the way. The idea for this page has been in the back of my mind for a while, and what better time to finally launch it than on Earth Day.
If you’re not aware, April is Earth Month, with the first Earth Day being recognized on April 22, 1970. It’s a time to celebrate this beautiful planet we call home and the progress made within the climate movement, as well as implementing better habits as consumers while holding those higher up accountable. With this year’s theme being Planet vs Plastics, EARTHDAY.ORG is demanding the production of all plastics be reduced by 60% by 2040.
The easiest way to make small changes though? In your own home and day-to-day life!
Here are some ways I have been more conscious of my own sustainable practices for the month of April:
- Remembering my reusable produce bags – I vowed for this month and going forward that I wouldn’t use the plastic produce bags anymore. Yes, I reuse them, but I don’t need them, and they’re not very durable either.
- Cleaning up the lakefront – Last week, my toddler and I went for a walk along the water, and I picked up trash while we were there. Though Sully mostly picked up stones, these are the kind of things I want him to see me doing from an early age.
- Stopping by my local thrift store – I probably pop into my local thrift store at least once a month, and I love seeing what treasures I can find each visit. On this trip, I grabbed a couple clothing pieces for Sully and a book for myself.

If you haven’t been taking any action for Earth Month, no worries! There’s still just over a week left of April, and these are small changes we want to turn into habits and conversations we want to continue having all year round!
Even just reading this post shows that you care to some degree. So, thank you for being here, and I’m excited to see where this space goes. If you want to stay connected then make sure to follow my Instagram page here.
